The technical editor provides technical editing on proposal engagements including editing for organization, content, technical accuracy and style, to include:
- Assessing the level of editing a piece of documentation requires at every stage of the process
- Ensure proposal style guidelines are developed, applied consistently, and met
- Ensure that every text and non-text element is correct
- Ensure proposal terminology consistency
- Check and verify all graphics, figures, listings, tables and other non-text items, and ensure all call-outs are accurate and properly placed
- Monitor page count adherence and assist in meeting page count through effective planning, reviewing, editing, and graphic placement.
Prior to the technical editing work, the Technical Editor shall establish or implement an established style guide, and be responsible for author compliance to a reasonable extent while proposal authors are writing their sections. It is important to institute early standards in order to reduce rework during the editing cycle. A style guide includes a glossary, list of acronyms, or index, as is required of the proposal manager or RFP as both a product of the proposal as well as a tool for continuity in writing for proposal contributors.
