In a recent Government Executive, writer Susan Fourney reports on a new website under development — www.govlish.com. I previewed the site and received my Diploma in Proficiency in GOVLISH awarded by T.J. AlpaSoup , Lord of the Govlanders. You can get your own Diploma by taking their three question test at the site.

As Susan reports, the mission statement of GovLish is “Govlish is the language of Govland. Native Govlanders write and speak it. Demystify it, and government is accessible to everyone”. Govlish plans to aggregate and analyze more than 100,000 terms to help people decode the federal bureaucracy. Their study of this second language had the following responses; 2% found terms “precise and logical”,61 % said the language was “insider jargon”, 12% said it was “mumbo jumbo” none said is was “easy to learn”.
